Being safe in the sun not only helps to avoid sun-damage and premature ageing but also reduces your risks of skin cancer.  The following six tips are simple and easy to implement into your busy day.

One – Use a decent modern broad-spectrum SPF (minimun SPF 30).  These are no longer like the white gloop we used to take on holiday with us (thank goodness!).  Which means, there is absolutely no excuse to not wear a SPF every day! If you like a little coverage on your face try this slightly tinted SPF = sun protection plus a flawless finish… how very smug you’ll feel when you no longer need that extra layer of makeup…

Two – We all know this one, but it is SOOO important.  Drink more water – stay hydrated.  Drinking when you’re thirsty is a sign that your body is already dehydrated, top up before you get thirsty and keep topping up throughout your day.  I know it means more trips to the bathroom but this is good for your bladder too.  I carry a big bottle of water with me every day and fill it up once it’s empty – challenge yourself.  To add a bit of glitz try adding some fresh lemon or mint and feel like one of those uber-healthy lululemon ladies…

Three – Speaking of dehydration, try this GORGEOUS product (Skinceuticals Hydrating B5) for re-hydration, it is soooo cooling, calming and VERY hydrating. Using this is literally like giving your skin a direct pint of water. I LOVE this product.  Especially in the summer.  It is oil-free, light and luxurious.  Remember that dehydrated skin becomes ‘lined skin’ which becomes ‘wrinkled skin’ Stop this evil cascade!

Four – Avoid the mid-day sun (11am-3pm) It IS too strong, it IS too hot and it WILL damage your skin.  The UVA rays will age you faster, the UVB rays will burn you, both can lead to all sorts of potentially serious skin issues later in life.  Go shopping, enjoy a coffee, take time out…of the direct sun.

Five – Use a topical antioxidant, for example this Skinceuticals CE Ferulic – The gold standard in skin care which gives you extra sun protection and works well with your SPF (& does a whole lot more btw)  A-MAZ-ING, award winning, patented blah blah… Trust me. This is a must-have if you’re serious about anti-ageing and skin health.

Six – If you wear perfume, spritz your clothes, not your skin.  Some research suggests that when perfume is warmed by the sun on our skin it can encourage pigmentation and brown spots.  Eeeek!

Which of these tips can you implement today?  Small changes can make a big difference.

Id love to hear your thoughts on this post, drop me a line…
